Bio

Elizabeth Frazer Perry, “Liz”, is the founder and Creative Director of ZZ Perry Art, LLC.  She is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, SCAD, with a degree in Textile Design.  She is experienced in creating a variety of textile forms, but focuses primarily on digital print design.  Liz has used this knowledge in creating a collection of vividly colored printed scarves.  Her current collection incorporates hand drawn insects that come in an assortment of brilliant colors and shapes.  Some of her other print designs include upland game birds and their feathers, a regal longhorn steer, and other Texana themed items, all used in scarves, bandanas, pocket squares, and dress fabric.

In addition to textile and fabric design, Liz has a love of jewelry and has created numerous jewelry pieces.  Her typical jewelry design includes beaded semi-precious stones and found-objects such as metal pieces from broaches, buttons, and charms.  Liz often finds costume jewelry from estate sales which she incorporates into her one-of-a-kind necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

Liz has a keen interest in upcycling clothing that she rehabilitates with her creative eye.  Because of her training at SCAD in textile embellishment, embroidery, and tambour beading, she is able to see the potential for discarded clothing and reinvent them with embroidery and appliqued pieces. Liz has transformed several orphaned pieces of clothing, particularly jackets, into unique garments by cleverly enhancing the details of garments with trim, charms, chains, buttons, and a variety of unusual decorative pieces. Her favorite sources for these embellishment pieces are from grab-bags from estate sales, full of unknown treasures.

As an inspired artist, Liz is constantly looking for new creative outlets for her interest and knowledge and love of textiles.

Artist Statement

Liz Perry has always been fascinated with and inspired by things found in nature, so it is logical that images of both flora and fauna are a frequent subject in her artwork.

While an art student studying at SCAD and living in the City of Savannah, Liz viewed the city as a giant version of a secret garden, with boundless opportunities for exploring.  A bonus of living in the lovely, pedestrian-friendly City of Savannah had been meandering through the 22 historic park squares woven throughout old Savannah, and the 30-acre Forsyth Park, all filled with mature oak trees ladened with Spanish moss, flowering shrubs, year-round greenery, and surrounded by ornate ironwork fences.  These parks held a plethora of inspirational seeds that grew into illustrations drawn with water color pencils with motifs of flowers, birds, tree bark, playful dogs, ironwork, and most notably, insects of all types and colors.

These illustrated images of flora and fauna have a vivid color pallet found in nature, with jewel and earth tones, such as emerald green, eggplant purple, and coffee brown.  Using these drawings, Liz designed digital prints to be made into luxurious fabrics, in particular silk, both satin and dupioni, leather, and upholstery linen.  These images from nature created a foundation of her artwork and continue to influence her ongoing creative endeavors.

Her dream is to create opulent printed fabric for a commercial design business, while doing her own independent creative projects.
